About Us
Asseta is a marketplace for used manufacturing equipment and spare parts. The first vertical we’re focusing on is the semiconductor industry—think Intel, Texas Instruments, IBM, etc. We’ve targeted 35 large, publicly traded manufacturers and are actively doing business with 24 of them.
Our competition mostly consists of brokers with barely-maintained spreadsheets, so you can imagine the commotion created when we built out the largest centralized parts database in the industry.
Our customers love us because we make it our jobs to make them look amazing. For most, their performance (and bonuses) are tied to reducing their spending, and we help them do that like nobody else.
With internal champions at many of our target companies, the next step is to evolve the product to better integrate with their workflow and automate ourselves out of the transactions.
Our long-term goal is to reduce the cost of innovation for hardware companies by providing reliable access to used equipment and parts, ultimately lowering the barriers to entry. If we are successful, we will empower a new generation of hardware startups. The next Jawbone, Nest or Soylent will use us to get started faster and with less capital.
We work hard, but we like to have fun in the office too, http://goo.gl/lknJy7.
We recently raised a $535k seedround, http://goo.gl/VfUmS4.

About You
You’ll be the second member of our engineering team and seventh member overall.
While your main responsibility will be coding and shipping product, it’s important that you have good communication skills, empathy, and the ability to lead on various fronts.
As a marketplace startup, our “product” is doing whatever we can to get buyers and sellers participating on the site. You should be excited by the challenges of using technology to motivate these behaviors.
Technical qualifications
Seasoned Ruby developer. We’re looking for someone with deep experience using Rails, Postgres, and Redis but who identifies more with being a Ruby developer.
Passionate about writing clean code. If you want the challenge of massively scalable systems, that’s not us. Our challenges are automating multi-party, international transactions and making sense of unstructured data with code that’s reliable and easy to refactor.
Healthy appreciation for testing. DHH might think test-driven development is dead, but we don’t.
