Although squats or âoccupied spacesâ are common in downtown Caracas, the "Tower of David" has literally taken the phenomenon to whole new levels. The 45-story block was intended as a financial centre but abandoned after its developer died and the banking sector crashed. Squatters have now occupied the tower for years. Its unfinished, humongous, modified skeleton can be seen from almost anywhere in the city and the stories of what happens inside have become the stuff of urban legend.
