TL;DR Bit.ly's business model is buried deep within their TOS with no set pricing - and once you start using them you're locked in. Even if you want to migrate away from them, they won't let you export your data. Our data is held hostage and the ransom is unreasonable. The Story So about 8 months ago we officially launched Swayy in open beta. Swayy is a content recommendation tool that helps you find and share great stories to your social media profiles, that are relevant for your audience. When links are shared using Swayy, we use bit.ly as a short-link provider, using their support for custom short domains (we use swyy.co). When we signed up for our bit.ly account in order to get an API key for this integration to work, there was only one place mentioning we shouldn't make commercial use of this API - deep within their Terms of Service.
