<b>NASA Tests LDSD 'Flying Saucer'</b><br><br> <br><br> NASA mission managers are preparing for a launch attempt today, Saturday, of a high-altitude balloon carrying the Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) test vehicle to the edge of space on a test flight from the U.S. Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii.<br><br> <br><br> Live coverage is on now. <br> Today's balloon launch window extends from approximately 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. HST (11:15 a.m. to noon PDT, 2:15 to 3 p.m. EDT). The balloon will take approximately 2-3 hours to achieve float conditions. Liftoff from Space Launch Complex 2 aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket at VAFB is targeted for 2:56 a.m. PDT (5:56 a.m. EDT, 0956 UTC).&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; OCO-2 is NASA's first mission dedicated to studying atmospheric carbon dioxide, the leading human-produced greenhouse gas driving changes in Earth's climate. On launch day, July 1, NASA TV launch commentary coverage of the countdown will begin at 12:45 a.m. PDT (3:45 a.m. EDT). Launch is targeted for 2:56 a.m. PDT (5:56 a.m. EDT). The flight azimuth of the Delta II after liftoff will be 196 degrees.
