Apple is boasting that its new operating system will thwart lawful search warrants. Under the old operating system, the government needs a warrant to have Apple unlock a locked iPhone. Apple has designed the new system so that Apple can't unlock the phone even with a warrant. But is thwarting lawful search warrants in the public interest? I find it pretty troubling. Here's why I'm troubled, together with an analysis of the law and some speculation of what Congress might do in response.
