In 2001, a team of archaeologists found a cache of conch shell 'trumpets' buried at Chavín de Huantar, a 3,000-year-old temple deep in the Peruvian Andes. They were still playable, and perhaps used for a hidden series of shamanic hallucinogenic ceremonies. Miriam Kolar studied and now shares the archaeoacoustics of the secretive site.
