In our business, every day we lose 1.5% of our ability to move the numbers for the current quarter; a basis point every two hours. For consumer teams the situation is less measurable but even more dire as hundreds of millions of human years worth of time pass through tools that aren’t as good as we know they can be. Every day we need to ask how we can do better tomorrow, and then find a way to make it happen today. There are lots of ways to achieve this. Maybe we can parallelize work. Maybe we need to reduce what we are doing and focus our energies better. Maybe we can be more efficient. Maybe we need to reinvest in underlying technology. Whatever the answer, we need to approach this with a deep seated Sense of Urgency, realizing that every minute we delay really matters.
